If Only….

IfOnly....1

‘If I only I had more fashionable clothes, then My life would be more put together.’

‘If only I could get into this university, then my life would have meaning.’

‘If only my friendships were closer, then I’d be happier.”

‘If only I had a boy/girlfriend. Then I wouldn’t be lonely.’

I have a problem of wishing for things could be different. If I only I had this, if only I had that, then I would be happy. The world also likes to tell us that we need things and relationships to be happy.

But as Christians is that were our joy and happiness comes from? Material things and relationships?

It might bring us happiness in the moment. But that’s it. Only one thing can truly satisfy the longing we have. The longing we all have for purpose and meaning in our lives.

Jesus.

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35)

For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things. (Psalm 107:9)

For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. (Matthew 16:25)

The things of this world will never make us truly happy.  Only Jesus can bring true joy to our lives. It can be hard at first give up the things of this world for him but it’s worth it.

Is this something you struggle with? What are verses that encourage you?

  1. Yes! I struggle. Growing up, getting married, going to school doesn’t ever provide your needs. Only Jesus. Psalm 107 is perfect, our souls are only satisfied and fed in Christ.

    Matthew 11:29
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

  2. Wow, great post, Rebekah! You are totally right, material goods and possessions always disappoint, but Jesus truly satisfies. I love 1 Thessalonians 5:18 –
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

  3. I absolutely love your posts, Rebekah ❤ They’re always so encouraging and inspiring! This is definitely something I struggle with – looking to things I don’t have and want instead of the One I already have. He is all I will truly ever need! My desires for new/different things are simply preference and won’t have a lasting impact on my life. That’s something I have to remind myself of ❤ I loooove the verse you shared from Psalm 107! I’ve never read it before.

    Jesus.”

Jesus is the Only thing that can truly satisfy us.
